Our Fall Department Meeting was held on Oct 18, but many of the usual suspects were not present. Camp Commander Pete Oetting was given the plaque to present to Tiffany Patterson, Missouri Division of State Parks, Capitol Museum Supervisor, for her patriotic service in supporting the goals of our organization by acquiring funds to preserve Merrill's Cavalry's Flag. The plaque will be presented at the ceremonies for the flag's return to Missouri this November.
You can still donate to off-set the money the State Museum is paying for this, but the 2nd Mo Cavalry flag IS BACK to Missouri!!!! Thanks to the Lillie Camp's Help!

MISSOURI SUVCW FINDS COPY OF MISSING CHARTERING
DOCUMENT OF NATIONAL SUVCW !
While PDC Walt Busch was going thru the old records of the William T. Sherman/Billy Yank Camp #65 recently turned over to him by Maggie Grothe, widow of Col. Jack Grothe, PCC, he found a copy of the original chartering document of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He had never seen it before. He was interested as to what it was as the first name on the chartering document was General of the Army Douglas MacArthur.
Checking with PC-in-C Jim Pahl and SUVCW Historian Robert Wolz, Wolz stated the document (shown below) was the one that use to be at all national encampments and is now missing. Walt had a high definition copy of this made and turned over to Wolz and Pahl with the suggestion that the copy be put on the national website.

FOR THE CHILDREN:
America needs a good 12¢ Patriotic Comic.
These comic books were produced by the School and College Service division of the Association of American Railroads in 1959 & 1960. The cover art is by Bill Bunce. An interesting promotional comic covering railroad history during the Civil War. These pdfs can be downloaded and printed out on regular paper. Their actual size is standard 7x10 comic size, 16-pages, full color, newsprint cover and interior. This comic book and others like the Classics Illustrated series encouraged many a child in the 1950's and 60's to read, taught good citizenship, ethics, and inspired imagination before comics became more violent and overpriced.
